Production Process

Image
Hi Everyone! Today I watched a few videos about design thinking and the production of film making/documentary. Design thinking in my words is a process that solves problems to prioritise the customers needs. Design thinking also makes you think from a customers perspective as you are doing something to prioritise the customer so you need to get into their mindset to figure out the problem. Design thinking is a set of tools to help solve the problem in a creative way, For example when there is a problem in a company, the company will use design thinking to create a new product altogether. I think it is important to be aware of design thinking as it is extremely useful for tackling problems that are unknown, creating many ideas in brainstorming sessions and adapting a hands on approach in prototype and testing. It is very evident to me that design thinking is a very flexible process used by professionals and its good for many projects associated with digital media. There are five st...

Peer Review #1

Hi Everyone! This week for my assignment I had to write feedback on my peers blogs. This is something new to me as I have never given feedback to someones else's work in such detail. I was a little confused on how to give some good feedback that hopefully would help my peers in the future but I read a few articles for help and I tried my best to give my peers some advice. After I read my peers blogs I think it also helped me for my future blogs too as their blogs were very different to mine even though we get the same assignments we all took different approaches to them. I have definitely learnt better ways to approach my blogs from my peers and also their blogs have given me many different ideas that I wouldn't have been able to think of.  I think giving and receiving feedback from peers is absolutely a good assignment and it is necessary to improve our productivity, promote personal and professional growth as helping each other amongst the group will only improve our skills...

Digital Media

Hi Everyone! Today I would firstly like to talk about what digital media means to me which is basically how we use technology on a day to day bases online, for example using our laptops for college and assignments as we need to have some sort of digital media knowledge to be able to do this online. Digital Literacy is becoming very important in the modern world nowadays, as technology is growing everyday. Nowadays it's not just knowing how to use technology but now you have to know how to navigate through lots of different environments online as there are appropriate skills needed to succeed in the modern world. I realised how important digital literacy is in the modern world as 90% of graduate students have some sort of ICT skills for the job market to become employable. Even though everyone can post their thoughts online and communicate, connect with people who have the same interests or share the same beliefs as them and it makes it fun and exciting, you need to be careful with...

Media Literacy

Hi Everyone! Today I read a very interesting article about news media literacy and the perceptions of bias and interpretation of news. I did find this article a bit difficult and too long winded, as it repeated itself quite a lot and it took a lot of time for me to finish everything. I did find the article interesting and there is definitely things I think about differently after reading the article.  The impact of Digital Media is good in many ways as many people can share ideas and become connected with others, but we all need to be aware as literally now a days anyone can publish anything online. I was shocked as many Digital Media companies have been found lacking to help users in Ireland. Over 62% of Ireland worries about misinformation online and this already shows me that not enough people are informed about false news and what to do when it's found. There was a study that showed a significant development in the fight against disinformation in Europe, But reports showe...

Active Reading

Hi Everyone! Today I have read a very interesting paper about how Ernest Balajthy used students constructed questions to encourage active reading. Ernest was a teacher at Beaver College, Pennsylvania and he made this paper in 1984, Feb. I also read two other papers before this one about active reading techniques which I would like to compare to with this one.  After reading Ernest's paper I have realised it is primarily aimed at students and teachers, especially for teachers to help their poor readers enhance their retention. He tells us how important it is as students to construct questions about the structure of the text as it improves our narrative material. In his text he gave a lot of self-questioning strategies, for example the ReQuest Manzo procedure(1969)-this strategy improves students text analysis, So you read the first sentence of a paragraph and close the book, The teacher then asks questions and the students cannot continue to read until they have answered all t...

Study Skills

Image
Hi Everyone! This week I watched three videos for my IDM assignment and I  have a few thoughts that I would like to share to all of you about these videos. All three videos were different so I have a couple things to share today! The first video is about the three best science based study tips. I found this video very interesting as it gave me many tips that I thought wouldn't work when studying, for example I always thought the more you tried to study a day the better grades you would get, apparently that is not the case. If you use science you can study less and get better grades! The three methods that were recommended were Quizzing, Spacing and mixing. I didn't understand how these three were the best out of all the methods of studying. They just felt too simple to be the best study skills, But these are actually the most difficult ways to study as they make you challenge yourself a lot. Scientific studies show that the more you struggle in studying the better grades you ...
